There’s a new hybrid-only crossover from Kia! I know that sounds like pretty much the least Jalop combination of things ever invented, but it’s got a cool name and some more than decent styling. It seems pretty darn promising for your basic runabout. Meet the Kia Niro.

The name is not far off from the Dodge Nitro.

Let us now pray that everything else about the car is as far off from the Dodge Nitro as possible.

The Niro would be great for a taxi driver.

It looks okay, nothing really spectacular either way, although the front looks a bit funny to me. I wish they’d go for that squared-off look that they recently teased in a concept SUV; I think it was in Detroit where they showed it off for the first time.
I really like those wheels, though. Even at a standstill it looks like a spinning blade.
Is this supposed to be a small crossover like the CX3/HRV/etc.?

Nothing particularly special by today’s standards, but it looks sharp.

This doesn’t look half bad coming from Kia.

It looks damn great and perfectly sufficient in that class of cars. More of a competitor to the RAV-4 Hybrid or more luxury into the NX300h area?

Not sure. Looks more like a Sportage replacement to me.

It’s a subcompact, so it sits between the Soul and the Sportage in size. I can’t tell where the pricing will start though.

I’m just glad Kia finally introduced something new that wasn’t just a concept.

If Rolland gets one and changes his name to Bob, he can call himself Robert DeNiro.
